Last week to donate to the Girls Camp Service Project
Stake Girls Camp Service Project is in need of some supplies - donations needed by July 1st.  Each ward has been asked to donate enough Fleece the size of 58"x 60" wide (2 yards)  for 13 blankets.  We have had 6 sisters sign up for this.  We need 7 more.  Please consider helping with this project by donating fleece.

Small Soap/Deodorant/Lotion

Toothbrush/Small Toothpaste

Gum/Treat

Feminine Hygiene Products

The Savior is our perfect example of ministering, By Bonnie Van Orden

In this lesson we discussed scriptures where Christ taught how to minister.

Not everything Christ did while he was on the earth was a miracle, but he was always ministering.

In 3 Nephi 17:1-10, We learn of Christ visiting the Nephites after his resurrection. The Nephites wanted the savior to stay and tarry with them longer. He knew their hearts and desires. He had love, compassion and was aware of their needs. We too can have love and compassion for those we minister to and find their needs.

In Matt. 5:43-48, We learn from the Savior to love our enemies do good to them that hate you and pray for them which despitefully use you and persecute you. To love them you need to act out of love before you can minister to them.

Matt. 14:22-23, The Savior teaches his disciples to have faith in him. He allows us to try before he helps us, he wants us to lean on our faith, that with Christ all things are possible. Peter had faith to walk on the water as Christ had. We too can have the faith of Peter in our lives. Have faith in the promptings you receive from the Holy Ghost. The savior is always with us and will help us in ministering to others as he did for peter and his disciples.

D&C 6:15-20, Joseph Smith received a revelation for Oliver Cowdry. He was to stand by Joseph and minister to him. When we minister its not about numbers but by a spirit directed friendship; with love, caring and with an intended reason.

John 4:6-30-39-42, Jesus is at a well and a woman of Samaria comes to the well to draw water but has nothing to draw water with. Jesus then teaches her that he is the living water and to drink of him. He shows unto her that he knows her personally so as he is ministering to her she can see that he is the living water, to thirst after him brings everlasting life. Know who you are ministering to personally. Try to show your love to others by getting to know them in a personal way.

John 4: 46-53, Jesus had changed the water into wine. The noble man saw this miracle and came unto Jesus and asked if he would heal his son that was sick. Jesus said unto him except you see signs and wonders, ye will not believe. Jesus then told the man go thy way, thy son liveth. And the man believed what Jesus had spoken. We can minister even when we are not there in person. There are lots of different ways we can do this… we can pray for a person or persons, put their name in the temple, and we can fast for those we minister to.

John 5:2-9 There was a pool with 5 pools that could heal the first person who stepped in the pools after an angel went down and troubled the waters. Jesus seeing a man by the pools with an infirmity for 38 years asked him why he wasn’t whole, the man replied that he had no one to put him in the water before someone else stepped down before him. We need to have the ability to see when others need to be healed. Our Savior healed one by one as an example for us to follow.

John 6:5-14, Jesus feeds 5000 with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish. This was a miracle. He saw what was needed and prayed to his father for help. In ministering like Jesus did in this scripture we can look to see others needs. Even after the multitude was fed there was more bread and fish left over than there were before he fed them. We can do all things in Christ.

It's a Wrap.... What will you do with it now?

Meek and lowly of heart by Elder Bednar - taught by Kim Beecher

When asked what a good Boss is, some of the sister’s replies were, Patient, integrity, kind, sense of humor, listens, flexible, good mentor, good attitude, servant, consistently fair.

In Matthew Ch.11:29 says, Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

What is our Savior saying in this scripture? He is saying that he is meek. Of all the many other qualities and attributes our Savior has describe himself, he chooses meekness.

Elder Bednar says in his talk, “The Christlike quality of meekness often is misunderstood in our contemporary world. Meekness is strong, not weak; active, not passive; courageous, not timid; restrained, not excessive; modest, not self-aggrandizing; and gracious, not brash. A meek person is not easily provoked, pretentious, or overbearing and readily acknowledges the accomplishments of others.

Meekness is a defining attribute of the Redeemer and is distinguished by righteous responsiveness, willing submissiveness, and strong self-restraint. Our Savior has already taken our Yokes upon him. All we must do is follow him in all meekness.

In D&C 19:23 reads, Learn of me, listen to my words; walk in the meekness of my Spirit, and you shall have peace in me.

When we walk in his meekness we learn of him, we learn of his meekness, we put our trust in him to lead us. We will have peace in Christ.

What can we learn from the scriptures in the Book of Mormon about the epistles that occurred between Moroni, the captain of the Nephite armies, and Pahoran, the chief judge and governor of the land?

Moroni, whose army was suffering because of inadequate support from the government, wrote to Pahoran “by the way of condemnation” and accused him and his fellow leaders of thoughtlessness, slothfulness, neglect, and even being traitors. How did Pahoran respond back to Moroni?

Some of the responses were, He didn’t take it personally, he was in tune with the spirit, he exercised humility, he was grieved over what Moroni and the Nephite army were going through. Some of the other qualities that Pahoran showed forth when replying to Moroni were righteous responsiveness, he was positive, he had strong self-restraint, thinking of others and not himself. He also showed willing submissiveness, he showed strength, boldness, courage and kindness.

Meekness is an attribute developed through desire, the righteous exercise of moral agency, and striving always to retain a remission of our sins. It also is a spiritual gift for which we appropriately can seek. We should remember, however, the purposes for which such a blessing is given, even to benefit and serve the children of God. We learn this attribute when the Savior washed his disciple’s feet before his crucifixion. However much we serve the Lord, he turns around and blesses us much more. He is always encouraging us to try again when we fall, to come back to him and his father and he never gives up on us!

How can we focus on our meekness? It’s much like a present or gift we may get from someone. We need to receive it, unwrap it, open it, and take what is inside willingly, with love, and gratitude, willing to use it. As we come unto and follow the Savior, we increasingly and incrementally are enabled to become more like Him. We are empowered by the Spirit with disciplined self-restraint and a settled and calm demeanor. Thus, meek is what we become as disciples of the Master and not just something we do.

We need our Savior to offer us meekness because we can only receive it from the spirit. The question we need to ask ourselves are we receiving it?

“So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him” (Matthew 20:30, 32–34).

What can we learn from how the Savior listened?

Young Women in the Work by Bonnie L. Oscarson - Alissa Allen

In Sister Nelson’s talk to the youth she said:

“Our Heavenly Father has reserved many of His most noble spirits—perhaps, I might say, His finest team—for this final phase. Those noble spirits—those finest players, those heroes—are you!”

Our youth are our heroes! What a privilege it is to be their mothers and their leaders.

We as women both young and old are an army of heroes driven, committed, talented, strong in our beliefs that we are daughters of a Heavenly Father. We are to help gather Israel.

President Nelson said to our youth, “My beloved younger brothers and sisters, you are among the best the Lord has ever sent to this world. You have the capacity to be smarter and wiser and have more impact on the world than any previous generation!

Our Young Women are needed in the work of ministering. When asked by their leaders what they could do in ministering some of their comments were, pray for the desire, show love, and church isn’t about numbers it’s about loving to serve. Each of us have something to offer in this work of ministering.

Ask our YW to help, give them the opportunity to minister. We as mother’s, grandmothers, aunts, and leaders can be role models for our youth, involve them!

Recognize their abilities, they have so much to offer. Teach our youth in all ways to serve. Take them with you to serve, help them look for opportunities to reach out to others. Bonnie L. Oscarson said “Every young woman in the Church should feel valued, have opportunities to serve, and feel that she has something of worth to contribute to this work.” As we consider the roles that our young women will be expected to assume in the near future, we might ask ourselves what kind of experiences we could provide for them now that will help with their preparation to be missionaries, gospel scholars, leaders in the Church auxiliaries, temple workers, wives, mothers, mentors, examples, and friends.

Young women of the Church, your teenage years can be busy and often challenging. We have noticed that many more of you are struggling with issues of self-worth, anxiety, high levels of stress, and perhaps even depression. Turning your thoughts outward, instead of dwelling on your own problems, may not resolve all of these issues, but service can often lighten your burdens and make your challenges seem less hard. One of the best ways to increase feelings of self-worth is to show, through our concern and service to others, that we have much of worth to contribute.

This quote is not just for the YW, it pertains to all women in the church. We are all valued in the work of salvation. As you fulfill your covenant responsibilities and participate in building the kingdom of God, blessings will flow into your life and you’ll discover the deep and lasting joy of discipleship.

A story from Elder Holland illustrates the power of listening:

“My friend Troy Russell pulled his pickup truck slowly out of his garage. … He felt his back tire roll over a bump. … He got out only to find his precious nine-year-old son, Austen, lying face down on the pavement. … Austen was gone.

“Unable to sleep, unable to find peace, Troy was inconsolable. … But into that agonizing breach came … John Manning. …

“I frankly don’t know on what schedule John and his junior companion made visits to the Russell home. … What I do know is that last spring Brother Manning reached down and picked Troy Russell up off the tragedy of that driveway just as if he were picking up little Austen himself. Like the … brother in the gospel he was supposed to be, John simply took over the priesthood care and keeping of Troy Russell. He started by saying, ‘Troy, Austen wants you back on your feet—including on the basketball court—so I will be here every morning at 5:15 a.m. Be ready. …'

“‘I didn’t want to go,’ Troy told me later, ‘because I had always taken Austen with me. … But John insisted, so I went. From that first day back, we talked—or rather I talked and John listened. … At first it was difficult, but over time I realized I had found my strength in the form of [John Manning], who loved me and listened to me until the sun finally rose again on my life.’”

Several families in the ward are experiencing a loss of a loved one.  Please remember them in your prayers at this tender time for them.

Paul and Dottie Thayn's daughter passed away last week from cancer. 
Ray Kinghorn's mother passed away this past Thursday.
Jerry and Angie Phillips granddaughter was born prematurely with complications and passed away Saturday evening.

Also, Barbara Lindeman is having surgery on Thursday and would appreciate prayers on her behalf.

How do we help our youth make technology their servant and not their master? -council led by Valerie

What example as parents and grandparents are we setting for our children and grandchildren when it comes to spending too much time on our phones and or tablets? We have a duty as parents to protect our children, youth, including ourselves to have self-control over what technology will be in our lives… will we let it be our servant or our master?

Some of the responses that were discussed in our RS council were “We can love it and hate it at the time”.

Other comments were that it takes a lot of time out of our day when we can possibly be doing something better with our time. Technology can be used for good in a lot of ways. Just as Bishop Mardesich said when bearing his testimony on Sunday that he received a notification that someone from New Zealand wanted to get in touch with him. He reached out to this person and found out that they were related through their great grandmothers. There are so many good things that we can be doing with technology, and yet there are many things that are addicting and evil with technology.

Statistics are a staggering 93% of boys have looked at pornography, 63% of girls have looked at pornography and 46% look at pornography daily!

What examples are we setting as parents for our children when it comes to spending too much time on our phones or tablets? Ways we can check ourselves. Check how many minutes or hours we choose to be on our devices, find better ways to use our time and teach these things to our children.

In D&C 60:13 Christ said, ….wherefore I give unto them a commandment, thus thou shalt not idle away thy time, neither shalt thou bury thy talent that it may not be known.

Gospel principles are the same today as they were in the past. We need to build our foundations on these same gospel principles to help us in guiding our children and youth through troubled waters. Prepare our children for the dangers of technology. Let us as parent be a safe place for our children to come to when they come across things that are inappropriate. Make sure we are communicating with our youth. Are we telling them we love them? Are we hugging them? Showing our interest in their accomplishments? Are we listing to them? Are we leading by example?

Some suggestions made from some of the sisters to help us apply an action to our council are, set guide lines or rules for technology that apply to all in the family, encourage our youth to talk with their bishops, take away devices at certain times each day or night, have filters installed on devices to help prevent misuse, have feed back or council with our children on the best ways to avoid the pitfalls of technology, lead by example.

June Ministering Principles - Five Things Good Listeners Do

Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said: “Perhaps even more important than speaking is listening. … If we listen with love, we won’t need to wonder what to say. It will be given to us—by the Spirit.”

Listening is a skill we can learn. Listening shows our love for others, helps build strong relationships, and invites the Spirit to bless us with the gift of discernment to help us understand others’ needs. Here are five ways we can improve how we listen.

1. Give Them Time

Many people need time to gather their thoughts before speaking. Give them time to think both before and after they say something (see James 1:19). Just because they are finished speaking doesn’t mean they have said everything they need to. Don’t be afraid of silence (see Job 2:11–3:1 and Alma 18:14–16).

2. Pay Attention

We think faster than others speak. Resist the temptation to jump to conclusions or to think ahead to what you’ll say when they’re through (see Proverbs 18:13). Instead, listen with the intent to understand. Your response will be better because it will be informed by greater understanding.

3. Clarify

Don’t be afraid to ask questions that clarify something you didn’t understand (see Mark 9:32). Clarifying reduces misunderstanding and shows your interest in what is being said.

4. Reflect

Paraphrase what you heard and how you understand the other to feel. This helps them know if they have been understood and gives them an opportunity to clarify.

5. Find Common Ground

You might not agree with everything said, but agree with what you can without misrepresenting your own feelings. Being agreeable can help defuse anxiety and defensiveness (see Matthew 5:25). 

President Russell M. Nelson taught that we should “learn to listen, and listen to learn from one another.” As you learn to listen with the intent of learning about others, you will be in a better position to understand their needs and hear promptings about how you can care for those around you as the Savior would.
