February 24th Weekly Connection

2019 Meeting Schedule - See sidebar to the right...

It's a Wrap.... What will you do with it now?

The Stake Relief Society Presidency was visiting and Sister Robison left us this message:
Don't let Satan influence how we look at ourselves. When we always have  gratitutde in our hearts, we fight Satan's influence.

Sisters Participation in the Gathering of Israel - by Russell M. Nelson
led by Julie Peterson (Ward Conference)

"It is a cause that desperately needs women, because women shape the future. So tonight I’m extending a prophetic plea to you, the women of the Church, to shape the future by helping to gather scattered Israel."

"I’m extending a prophetic plea to you, the women of the Church, to shape the future by helping to gather scattered Israel."

President Nelson offered the women four invitations:

1- Take a social media fast. Responses from the sisters were:
  • Tris - Social media upsets her
  • Monica - The social media fast was difficult for her
  • Nadine - Why is social media so important
  • Sherry - Social media can be such a bad influence
2 - Read the Book of Mormon between October and the end of the year.
  • Stephanie - because she was following the Prophet's counsel, when she was on a trip, she had her Book of Mormon, that she was marking in, with her and was able to give it to an Uber driver who was interested in the church. She had been underlining whenever Christ was mentioned and it was noted that his name is mentioned 3,925 times in the book. She told the Uber driver he was sure to find Christ in the Book of Mormon.
  • Heather - she is still adjusting to her new life and commented that while reading the Book of Mormon, she felt herself being happier.
  • Gentry - commented that during that time, it seemed that everywhere she went, she saw women with their Books of Mormon.
  • Roberta - had a hard time with the challenge trying to fit everything in...but as she worked to get her priorities straight, the Lord helped her find a way.
  • Julie - we pay too much attention to the deadlines, when the performance is the most important.
  • Shauna - we should focus on the quality of time we spend in the Book of Mormon rather that the quantity...eliminate distractions.
3 - Go to the temple more - establish a pattern of regular attendance.
4 - Participate fully in Relief Society - Julie talked about the Relief Society Declaration.

"My dear sisters, you have special spiritual gifts and propensities. Tonight I urge you, with all the hope of my heart, to pray to understand your spiritual gifts—to cultivate, use, and expand them, even more than you ever have. You will change the world as you do so." - President Nelson

We each chose one of our own spiritual gifts, and recognized that by ourselves we aren't as strong as when we all stand together and combine our gifts...we have strength and can withstand Satan.

Ministering to our Sisters
Inspired Ministering
“The Lord is telling us it’s our responsibility to not only care for the Church but to also care for the people within the Church the way that Christ would because this is His Church. If we are trying to keep the commandments, be kind to each other, be honest, be good friends, and enjoy being together, then we will be able to have the Spirit with us and know what Heavenly Father wants us to do. If we don’t, then we can’t fulfill our calling.” Henry B Eyring

The elders quorum president and the Relief Society president communicate important needs directly to the bishop and will receive counsel and direction from him.

"A new name, new flexibility, and fewer reports will not make one ounce of difference in our service unless we see this as an invitation to care for one another in a bold new holier way."

Feb 17th Weekly Connection

2019 Meeting Schedule - See sidebar to the right...

It's a Wrap.... What will you do with it now?

Sisters, we see you.  We see you serving quietly.   We see you sitting beside those who would otherwise sit alone.   We see you with babies on your hips and children in tow.   We see you devoting time to teaching in your homes.   We see you praying and showing empathy for others. We see you building others testimonies through your example.   We see you supporting your husbands.   We see YOU.  All that you are and all that your doing.    And yet so often you don't see these things in yourself.  And so we want you to know that YOU ARE ENOUGH.   Not the you that you could be, not the you that you used to be, not the you that you should be.  Just YOU.  You are a daughter of God.  He loves you and so do we.  Never let yourself believe the lie that you aren't enough.

Love,
The RS Presidency

Ministering to our Sisters

Building Meaningful Relationships

“We build [relationships] one person at a time,” said Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. As we strive to build meaningful relationships with those we minister to, the Holy Ghost can guide us. The following suggestions are based on a pattern Elder Uchtdorf offered.

  1. Learn about them
  2. Spend time together
  3. Communicate with caring
  4. Appreciate differences as well as commonalities

The elders quorum president and the Relief Society president communicate important needs directly to the bishop and will receive counsel and direction from him.

"A new name, new flexibility, and fewer reports will not make one ounce of difference in our service unless we see this as an invitation to care for one another in a bold new holier way."

Women and Gospel Learning in the Home by Henry B Eyring
Lesson led by Gentry Wright

Have you read the Proclamation to the Family recently?

If so you may have noticed that sisters have a great responsibility in their homes!

We are called as nurturers. So what does it mean to nurture? The definition of nurture is: to care for and encourage the growth and development of something or someone.

What a marvelous and overwhelming calling this can be. But we have been given many tools to help us accomplish this work. The two fundamental things we must do to help nurture and grow the Gospel in our homes is scripture study and prayer.

These seem so simple and yet do we all make time to do them?

Gentry shared Julie Beck's talk 'Women Who Know' with us to help us as we strive to prioritize gospel learning in our home.  Attached you will find the video. As you watch it we hope you will celebrate all of the good that you are already doing within your homes and find ways you can implement beneficial changes that may help nurture your family's testimonies and create an atmosphere of gospel learning within your homes.

Ministering to our Sisters

Develop the Empathy to Minister

Ministering is lifting. We can lift others as we try to understand what they are experiencing and show that we are willing to walk with them.

As you consider the circumstances of those you minister to, imagine being in their situation and what you would find most helpful if you were in their shoes. Pray to understand how they feel and follow through. Your response may be simple, but it will be meaningful.
