It's a Wrap.... What will you do with it now? 

September 2nd - Family History Work Sealing and Healing by Elder Dale G. Renlund led by Kathy Hatch

Do you know what family history work is?  It’s stories.  Stories of our ancestors, stories of our childhood, stories of who and where you came from.

Kathie shared some wonderful stories from her family history with us.For example her Grandpa died when he was 50 leaving her Grandma, Gladys to run their families lumber yard which was very, very hard work.  When Kathie was 4 years old she went to go live with her Grandma for 6 months and help her. She would pick up nails and help let her grandma know when customers came in.   To this day she loves the smell of sawdust and it reminds her of that time and of her Grandma!  Each of us have memories and wonderful stories of our own families. Family history work is discovering those stories and sharing them! We can all do that. 

Once we’ve learned of our families and learned about our ancestors we’ll have the opportunity to do their work in the temple for them.   

President Russell M. Nelson, in his first message as President of the Church, declared,      "Your worship in the temple and your service there for your ancestors will bless you with increased personal revelation and peace and will fortify your commitment to stay on the covenant path."

As we participate in family history and temple work we can also receive 'healing' blessings.   We discussed how the sister have felt increased protection from temptations, assistance mending troubled or broken hearts, an appreciation for ancestors and living relatives that help us to know we are not alone.  

Kathie shared with us some ways to start doing family history work now. She showed us an activity she had done with her family in which they hung pictures with the names and attributes of their ancestors. They then had the children in their family come up and sign their name below the picture if the attribute was something they would like to possess.   What a fun and creative way to engage in family history work!

No matter how we do it, we can and should start doing family history work now. Write down stories, go on family search, look through old photo albums. Family History work can and should be fun! And going to the temple for our ancestors is a great blessing! 

  

Council Action for August

Everyone:  Find one moment each week this month to be still.

Personalize it:  Discover how you find peace in your life.  Take a look at your busy and eliminate something that isn't necessary. Start your day with positive thoughts.  When things feel overwhelming take deep breathes.  Take a step back if things aren't going as planned and  be okay with changing the plan. 

Change in the Bisopric
As most of you know, there has been a change in Bishop Mardesich's Bishopric Councilors, we would like to thank Brothers Ray Kinghorn and Brandon Howell for their service and welcome new Councilors, Brothers Doug Graham and Mike Miller. We appreciate so much the hours of service spent in our behalf by our Bishopric.

Please take a few minutes and follow these instructions. 

3.  Is your contact info correct?  

If not and you need to change or update your info, go to your name in the directory (on a mobile device) and touch the red circle with a pencil and you can edit from there.  If you are signed on at lds.org, click on your name and then the edit button.

4.  Do you know how to access your ministering assignment?

On your mobile device click on your name.  Directly underneath your name is a blue bar that says:  contact, household, membership information, callings and classes and ministering (you must scroll across to access each of these headings.)  Click on ministering and it will list those that minister to you and who you minister to.
